Today something very exciting happened: 96 bales of peastraw!
In the name of fertile well mulched gardens that retain moisture and are rich in nutrients for growing our organic veges, we made a bulk order of peastraw and got it all at a very low bale price. The same stuff sold in gardening stores retails at almost double the price. That’s one of the beauties of working collectively, you can purchase bulk and sometimes that works out very well for your purse.
Like all things Kakariki, the straw is being offered beyond the fences of the core 13 households that make up our street, and other neighbours and friends are set to benefit from this initiative too.
